UP Diliman, Quezon City – Jose Nery D. Ong, CEO of Pueblo de Panay, Inc., was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Business & Countryside Development by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, here in UP Diliman, Quezon City, last August 19, 2017.

The UPAA has recognized the efforts of Mr. Jose Nery D. Ong in pushing for ICT investments in Roxas City. Under his leadership, Roxas City, through the Capiz ICT Council, has been identified as one of the 10 Emerging Locations in the 2015-2016 Awards Ceremonies on Center of Excellence, Top Next Wave Cities and Top 10 Emerging Next Wave Cities for IT-BPM Operations last March 30, 2016. It was the first time since the Next Wave Cities initiative started in 2009 that a city with a very young ICT council has secured a place in the Next Wave Cities ranking. The Capiz ICT Council, incorporated by the Securities and Exchange Commission on January 6, 2015, was less than a year old when the evaluation of the cities started. The Department of ICT recognizes this feat as a very significant step towards inclusive development in the countryside and job creation. It doesn’t stop there. Together with Philippine Software Industry Association President Mr. Jonathan De Luzuriaga, Mr. Jose Nery D. Ong is building the Philippines’ version of Silicon Valley in Roxas City – Spring Valley Technology and Innovation Hub. Also located in Pueblo de Panay Township, Spring Valley is going to be the melting pot of all the talented technology experts and innovators in the region to design, develop, and deploy game-changing creations and inventions. Spring Valley’s mantra is “Tech for Good” – reflective of their desire to use technology to make the world a better place.
